Digby Dragon

I spent a fair bit of 2016 working on this exciting new CGI animated series, following the adventures of Digby and his friends in Applecross Wood.

We went with a slightly folky feel for the music, and I bought myself a nice mandolin at the start of the project (I usually try to buy myself one new instrument for every new job!) In fact, it was quite a demanding score to write, as it had to switch from folky fun to anarchic humour to epic dramatic chase sequences, at breakneck speed.

As ever with Blue Zoo productions, the animation is really stunning – definitely some of the finest I’ve seen on a TV series. I usually had to work on the unfinished picture, before they put on the final bits of fairy dust (lighting and textures)… you wouldn’t believe the extra hours those animators put into bringing the world and characters to life. But when we had a couple of screenings in the cinema you realised it was worth all the extra effort (and the sore fingers from the mandolin!)

The show was commissioned by Nickelodeon UK & USA, along with Aardman Animation.
